Some of us just need a push. Need something to give us a jump start. As you have heard me say a million times this is a journey. That it is. Everyone’s journey is unique! I have take many of diet pills in my lifetime. Some with success and other a complete waste of money. I believe if you are going to commit to eating healthy and adding exercise to your routine you can achieve great results. I know that some of us need a push or need to see results fast to keep on track. If you are looking for a supplement to take and you live in Ocean or Monmouth county please check out Slim Fit X. No judgement for take a supplement! Whatever it take to start and stay on your journey is how you should get started. To stay on this journey you will need to learn how to shop, cook and make good healthy food decisions. Adding exercise will only enhance and speed up your results.
What motivates you? What keeps your motivated? We all wish it was easy to lose weight and get into an exercise routine. There has to be something that motivates us. Is it that your clothes don’t fit? Is it what someone said to you or how they looked at you? It really doesn’t matter what it was that brought you to this journey. It is what keeps you motivated to stay on this journey. It is NOT a diet. It is a journey to a healthier you. It is a fitness and healthy food journey. Learning how to do what is your normal routine of shopping and cooking will be your first hurtle. You crave what you know. Your mind and body needs to be retrained. You have to learn what is healthy and what good portion sizes are. Finding different ways to cook that are healthy and new recipes that will be exciting. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring. Dreaded exercise…I say dreaded because so many people tell me they don’t know how to get started. Just start by moving! Take the dog for a extra long walk. Use half of your lunch hour and take a walk around your work parking lot. Join a gym that works for your life. Make sure its affordable, that you are comfortable there, they have a childcare so you can commit to going without excuses. Don’t be intimidated. Walk into the gym and be confident. Hop on a machine push the green start button and start moving. Commit to staying on the machine a little longer every time. Put the resistance up as you get into a routine.
I used to reward myself with food. I still do occasionally but before you can start with food rewards you have to meet your weight loss goals and really be in a good head space about your journey so you can have perspective. In the beginning that is just not something that is easy. No cheat days! Let your reward for weight loss be to get higher goals and set aside money to buy yourself a article of clothing or fun piece of inexpensive costume jewelry. Reward yourself with time..set aside some time to just sit and watch a mindless show, read a book or take a bubble bath! This journey you are embarking upon can be so rewarding! Just stay the course and if you veer off get right back on track. Don’t let any time go by…not a minute! The longer your off track the more weight you put back on or gain and gaining is so much easier than taking if off! I believe in you!
So you started your journey. You can do this strictly with your diet or you can incorporate working out into this journey! I suggest both. Let’s say you choose to hit the gym. Now you are there…the real struggle begins. It may be out of your comfort zone or intimidating. Do not zone out. This journey is for you. You have to want this. You have to want it more than your afraid of it. Get on a machine push the green quick start button and set a short term goal! Challenge yourself to get to that short term goal and surpass it! Crushing your goals will become the only thing on your mind instead of the laundry you have to do or the errands you have to run. Doing this will keep you accountable and motivated. You will be able to say you did it and hopefully want more!
I don’t believe in a cheat day but if that is how your journey is set up I suggest you work out on that cheat day because if you get on the scale or out your pants on the next day and they are tight….was the cheat day worth it? We all know how hard it is to loose a pound or two so that crap you ate on your cheat day I am guessing wasn’t worth it. If you balance your diet and exercise plus do not deprive yourself you won’t feel the need to go over board on one single day.
Sometimes in life we have trick our minds into believing things that we don’t necessarily want in that moment. There are many moments I want to grab a spoonful of ice cream or to skip the gym. The trick is to fake out our mind. Focus on the end goal of your journey and what you ultimate want. Force yourself to get out and walk or hit the gym. Throw away the ice cream or cookies tempting you. Go buy yourself a healthy snack! Buy a shirt that is a little too tight settimg a goal to fit in it and wear it proud for a night out! Trick yourself into believing in yourself! We should all believe in ourselves all of the time but that is just not practical for majority of us. We are not in this journey because we have this amazing metabolism and this just comes easy to us. We work hard to be on this journey and stick with it. Mind games in this case aren’t such a bad idea!
Stay on track and do what you need to do to do just that! This is your journey forge ahead!
I first would like to apologize for being neglectful to my followers. As many of you know life gets in the way.
So this weather the past few days sure doesn’t feel like fall is coming. I must admit I am enjoying soaking up every last bit of the warmth and enjoying my summer clothes and flip-flops! I have been enjoying outdoor activities like running, biking and paddle boarding. I must give credit where credit is due theses humid hot days running outside is torture to me…so for all of you who get out there and run you are my hero! I am happy to report I am really liking avocado and especially guacamole. It’s good to try new things especially being open to things your thought you couldn’t possibly like.
So although the weather hasn’t cooled down quite yet your mind might be doing the dance of joy for the upcoming baggy sweaters and sweat shirts but don’t allow the fall clothes to keep you from your journey. Summer gives us a bit more perspective because squeezing into shorts and a tank top can be eye opening. Putting on a baggy sweater and comfy pants can convince you to sit down and enjoy a bowl of ice cream. Stay on your healthy journey and find some great new recipes. Get out there and walk, run, bike, walk the dog. Enjoy the fall weather before the real cold comes. Keep your body in the healthiest shape you possibly can. If you fuel your body properly and add exercise where you can you will sleep better, feel great and overall just be happier. Think of your body like a furnace. Fuel your body with lean protein, good carbs, veggies, good fats and fruits. This combined with activity you will see that your body will be like a constant burning furnace. Keep in mind your portion control and eating every 3 hours. Choose a realistic time to stop your food intake in the evening.
This is a journey. Remain on your journey regardless of any slips. This is a journey about you. About being a healthy you. Do this because you believe in yourself. Do this because you can. You can so you will!
I love this soup! I don’t add cheese and saute in coconut oil and add a touch of olive oil:) Hope you like it as much as I do. Who doesn’t love a crockpot recipe!
My BFF loves taking classes. She needs them to motivate her. To commit to an hour of working out. I have taken a few classes here and there last year and they weren’t bad but today I tried to take a class and well lets just say about 20 minutes in I packed up my weights and hit the floor. When I walked out of the room I felt free! I felt like a caged animal. I know seems so darn dramatic right! Well dramatic it may seem but we have to do what works for us! No one can tell us otherwise unless you are trying to be convinced to start your journey. I hit the gym 6 or 7 days a week. Yes I know we need a rest day but working out is a stress reliever for me and right now I need that! Know what you need:) So the point of this blog today is to say that saying “if it’s not broke don’t try to fix it” well I am not going to try again to do organized fitness. It is just not for me. I don’t do well with the choreographed steps and I want instant results meaning I want to push myself hard and I want to sweat! If classes are your thing then keep doing them and work to your highest potential in every class you take! If working out on your own is your thing then work hard and challenge yourself!
If you’re looking to lose weight and not work hard or for a quick fix there are a million people out there selling their programs. Shakes, wraps you name it but be cautious! Cautious of who you are and can you complete this program but still make this journey a lifetime.
You went to the gym today or you walked the dog around the block….that’s exercise right! Yes it is! I am happy your moving. Moving and not being a couch potato is great! If you are in a journey towards change…losing weight, healthy living then I expect more. You should want more too! You need to be moving and working up a sweat. If you are going to walk the dog walk for at least 20 minutes at a brisk walk. If your on the treadmill you’re not strolling! If you can talk to your friend next to you with no struggle then sorry but you’re not moving to your fullest potential! Some days are harder to get motivated and yes you need to listen to your doctor and their recommendations or just what your body might be telling you. Don’t confuse hard work and drive with your body saying it’s too hard I should quit or half ass it! Set out telling yourself you can! You will! You want to! Remember set small goals and exceed them! Set new goals till you have killed it and are so proud of yourself that you can’t wait to do it again the next day and strive for more!
Remember you didn’t just work out to go home and have ice cream and cookies you worked out because you’re changing your lifestyle you’re moving on to a healthy lifestyle. Yes you just killed it so go home and make a protein shake or get some good protein in your body! Don’t undo what you just worked so hard for. I am telling you because I was that girl! I was the girl who used to go to the gym and stroll on the treadmill for 20 minutes or so and go home feeling like I had bragging rights because I went to the gym and did a little something. I would reward myself with a container of ice cream and a big spoon. I went to the gym…come on I earned it! Um…NO! I also remained chubby and unhealthy fooling myself into believing I was meant to be overweight for the rest of my life! As you all know that is BS! I am living proof anyone can be on this journey with me. You just have to want it enough to make it your lifestyle.
Food Tip: I got whole grain naan and grilled up eggplant, zucchini, squash and spread some homemade garlic scape paste (like pesto) on the naan with a sprinkle of feta cheese and enjoyed a wonderful pizza the other night. I did one with feta and one with fresh mozzarella. Try out this garlic scape recipe below. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.
